Third day in Bangkok, haven't taken a single tuktuk or taxi, never met the guy, but when I tried entering the grand palace a tuktuk driver nearby told me the entrance is closed "because of lunch". He told me to go the other way and pointed down the outer palace walls.
Okay, so I walk down the sidewalk, turn at the corner of Phu Pha Suthat Fort (I think that's the name of it), I walked some more and come across what seems like a side entrance for staff. It was closed. I walked back to the main entrance, annoyed, and just went straight for the entrance. I just went in, no problem. No obvious sign of a mysterious "lunch break", the place was packed with tourists.
The question is why? I've never met the man and he didn't ask for anything. I've traveled before and was always careful of scammers and pickpockets, but then for the first time in my travels I get duped by someone telling me a place is closed due to a lunch break and tells me to walk the other way.
Like, wth???? What's the scam? What does the tuktuk driver get out of this? I don't understand.
