I’m in a 30 year age gap relationship. My partner is retired and financially comfortable, mostly living in Bangkok. I’m still working, earn well, and don’t rely on her financially. She enjoys spending time with younger, ambitious expats entrepreneurs, hustlers, creatives often in bar and social scenes. I genuinely support her staying social and feeling energized by younger crowds. What I’ve started noticing, though, is a pattern. Some people are very eager to hang out with her, invite her out, build rapport and then later the conversation shifts to business ideas, investment opportunities, or needing capital. It sometimes feels less like friendship and more like positioning. I also notice that a lot of people describe themselves as “entrepreneurs,” but it’s often vague what they actually do or how they make money. That makes me skeptical. I’m not trying to insult anyone.
