“This will come out of the employee’s salary.” Is this common?

I’m renting a condo, and I have one of the worst property management companies out there. I won’t mention them by name for obvious reasons, but let’s just say, they are one of the biggest, most corporate ones out there with a very popular website.

An incident happened that I won’t go into detail on, but the end result is that they owe me money for damages on something they did very wrong.

We have been negotiating the amount, and during talks, the manager said to me, “We ask for your kindness, because the amount we pay you will come out of the salary of the employee who made the mistake.”

Again, this is a huge company, very corporate. Is this a bluff, and a tactic to get me to drop my asking price on the fair compensation? Or, is this common in Thailand?
